JUDYTHE
SIECK portfolio: title and book design | young adult and adult covers | As a child, Judythe Sieck was constantly on the move. Belgium, Hawaii, and Washington D.C. are only a few of the places she went ashore. Roaming the halls of the National Gallery of Art with her docent mom, Judythe realized that great art would be her true home. After attending 13 primary and secondary schools she graduated from Allegany College and pursued her painting, design, and theatre passions in Newport, R.I. and New York City. When a different kind of passion lured her to San Diego, she alighted in the magical vortex known as Green Tiger Press. Under the knowing guidance of Alexandra Day (GOOD DOG CARL), she learned the art of book design and perfected her hand lettering. As Senior Designer and Creative Director for Harcourt Children’s Books, Judythe worked with a myriad of award-winning illustrators. While her lettering for STELLALUNA by Janell Canon is one for which she is best known, her work is recognizable on books by Marla Frazee, Margaret Chodos-Irvine, Jeanette Winter, and Barry Moser to name a few. Other bestsellers include THE MIRACULOUS JOURNEY OF EDWARD TULANE, PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON, THE SANDWICH SWAP, and more recently, LADDER TO THE MOON by Maya Soetoro-Ng (sister of President Obama.) Her collaborative approach to book design has earned numerous awards including Book Builders West, Parent's Choice, AIGA, and the Caldecott Honor. The hallmark of Judythe’s artistic integrity comes from her love of the printed word, well-crafted stories, and exquisite illustration. Today, Judythe calls Santa Fe, NM home, where she continues to hone her skills at Ghost Ranch and is a member of the Book Arts Group. |
